I just returned from Southern California to shop my new script for “Indio, The Real Story Of Danny Casolaro.” I can tell you I met with great resistance to my portrayal of Casolaro’s investigation. My initial focus was to show how the Netflix documentaries have been, at best, “limited hangouts,” leading investigators nowhere, like “Wormwood”, a Netflix production in 2018. The Netflix docudrama, “The Octopus Murders,” in 2024 is no different. “The Octopus Murders” is a road to nowhere after viewers gnash their teeth in despair after countless hours of research and frustration to make sense of the documentary.
I watched a lengthy nine-part Netflix series in 2018 called Wormwood about the CIA project to develop a truth serum. Wormwood focused on the research into bioweapons for the CIA with Frank Olson and Poisoner In Chief Sidney Gottlieb. I watched this series with a group of Wisconsin researchers and citizen journalists in Milwaukee. I had already gone to Montreal in the Spring of 2017 to extensively research the CIA’s Dr. Sidney Gottlieb, so I was primed for a great Netflix experience.
One of the great Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists, Seymour Hersh, starred in the Netflix Wormwood series. Seymour Hersch had generously given me precious advice to “go on the road and write a book” in February of 2017, so I was grateful to Mr. Hersch and positively inclined to receive his testimony in the Wormwood documentary.
But in Wormwood, Seymour Hersch, prominently featured in the series, stops short of naming names and generally pulls punches when it comes to talking about the CIA, truth serum, and the development of bioweapons. I was saying the names out loud to our research group in Milwaukee as Seymour Hersch skipped over them—names like “Richard Helms” for MK-Ultra.

I had already named Gottlieb and Helms in Montreal in my 2017 reporting about Gottlieb and Helms in the 1950s and 1960s. I was naming names in Wisconsin in 2018, with the University of Wisconsin being a keep bioe=weapons research center. We featured Dr. Kawaoka at the University of Wisconsin weaponizing Spanish Flu, H5N1, and other influenzas in 2018. Little did we know then that there would also be gain-of-function experiments going on with CoronaVirus in Wisconsin at that time in 2018.
I did name names in 2017 and 2018, even if Hersh wouldn’t, including Richard Helms, in my 2020 book, “Somewhere Under The Lockdown”.
Why was Hersch pulling punches? This left the door open for someone brave enough to enter the breech to name names, and I did just that. After seeing the Netflix production of Danny Casolaro’s “Octopus Murders,” I felt I had a similar obligation.
However, after talking with some of the actors/researchers, they felt I didn’t adequately represent Danny Casolaro’s work regarding his work at the Cabazon Indian Reservation in Indio, California. After all, Casolaro had left the dying clue in his left shoe with the word “Indio” written on a piece of paper to be discovered only in the event of his murder.
The “feedback group” wanted me to be more faithful to the story of Danny Casolaro as told in Cheri Seymour’s book, “The Last Circle,” starting with the Indio clue from the shoe and working toward a series of murders at the Cabazon Indian Reservation that occurred around the time of Danny Casolaro’s death.
I took the point of view of Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld, however. If we just had a guy killed for discovering we gave Saddam weaponized Anthrax, and now that Anthrax was blowing back on us with Gulf War Syndrome, the last thing I want to find in the murdered man’s bloody shoe is a piece of paper that says “Anthrax".
I tried to explain in my initial treatment of the Casolaro Investigation was to counter the confusion and despair the Netflix documentary series caused and is still causing by giving viewers “the answer to the test - Kissinger, Cheney, and Rumsfeld.” But I wanted to “make allowance for their doubting too,” as the poem “If” by Rudyard Kipling recommends.
The actors/researchers agreed that Kissinger, Cheney, and Rumsfeld were the answer to the test for the month of Casolaro's death - August 1991—but they didn’t agree that they fooled Casolaro. I had seen this “scene shifting” before with the HBO Documentary about the QAnon conspiracy movement. Donald Rumsfeld had been looking for an HIV antidote since the first days when he installed Michael Riordan as CEO of Gilead. I wasn’t going to let the fact Danny Casalaro’s father was working on an HIV antidote and paper litmus test go off the radar screen.

Our research group started in June of 2017 by reporting an arrest of Imran Awan, a Capitol Hill right-hand man of Debbie Wasserman Schultz and a Pakistan bioweapons liaison for Rahm Emanuel for a bio lab in Faisalabad, Pakistan. The “Q Movement” shifted the scene to a midget in Indonesia, believe it or not.
The “Q Movement” was started at that time with an endless set of breadcrumb clues that eventually led to a midget in a hotel in Indonesia. That’s right, the HBO QAnon series finally led to the last two hour-long episodes of a midget in Indonesia. That’s a long way from bioweapons on Capitol Hill. The “Q: Into The Storm” trailer had lasers lighting up various buildings in Washington, DC, and did not mention midgets in Indonesia.
The QAnon Conspiracy series on Netflix moved the discussion of CoronaVirus with its military roots in Iraq and Afghanistan to a midget with a laptop in Indonesia.
The viewer was never warned that their Q story was going to end up with a midget in Indonesia, so I consider this is burying the lead and being disingenuous - in other words, a deliberate waste of time. So I wanted to err on the side of being upfront with this series - “it was really Kissinger, Rumsfeld, and Cheney giving Saddam Anthrax” - the answer to the test.
I can foresee that this “Anthrax to Saddam” storyline will be a running point of disagreement with the Casolaro purists. The main point of contention was whether Casolaro knew Kissinger, Rumsfeld, and Cheney had supplied weaponized Anthrax to Saddam Hussein in the Iran-Iraq War. But for the research folks, where I discussed this topic in the first four episodes, there wasn’t enough “Indio” in my Indio screenplay. I promise I will add more “Indio” from here on it.
After all, I had researched Indio murders much more closely related to the Chicago Outfit, Sam Giancana, Johnny Roselli, Sidney Korshak, the JFK and RFK assassinations, and even Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby with their mob connections in Indio. I felt this is the real Indio story with the CIA meetpoint with the Chicago Outfit, and I won’t leave that part out of the story.
Dr. Casolaro seems to be picking up where the Henrietta Lacks cervical cancer experiments left off, and I was left wondering how much biological testing was being done of American Indian reservations. His diagnostic HIV test on litmus paper would undoubtedly have been a crucial addition to any military testing program on US Native American Indian populations.

I felt like the documents “left behind” after Casolaro’s murder had left out the real Danny Casolaro story with bioagents that his dad was involved with, and the “left behind” papers had scrubbed Kissinger, Rumsfeld, and Cheney’s involvement with HIV experimentation in Africa as well.

Author Cheri Seymour disputes my finding Martinsburg, WV that there was a death note scrawling out “Indio”. Her book “The Last Circle” contends it was an entire outline of the last chapter of his book, and only “Indian reservation” is mentioned.
This is going to be another point of contention for me for the rest of this series. If Kissinger, Rumsfeld, and Cheney are testing HIV and HIV drugs on American Indian reservation populations with Casalaro’s father’s HIV test, the last chapter outline isn’t going to say that. The “Last Chapter” is going to send you off into outer space with Star Wars lasers and the Navy Rail Gun, which it does.
The other points of contention in our Indio discussion group surrounded the capabilities of the PROMIS software, where there were strong opinions all around.
My experience with PROMIS as a Prosecutor Management Information System is that it helped County Prosecutors find perpetrators in other counties by having information fields for identifying markings on suspects, such as tattoos and birthmarks.
PROMIS did not link up hundreds of government agencies and many international countries in one giant “Octopus” system.
I had pushed the fact that Systematics had been the software that ran Iran-Contra and covert wars for Jackson Stephens, George Bush, Henry Kissinger, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld, not the overhyped PROMIS software.
